Quick Setup

  • Uninstall any wall manager script before WM 2.0. Older WM scripts are too different and do not install over eachother. If you ignore this, you may end up with multiple wall managers installed and running at once. You may also wish to uninstall sidekicks, but that is up to you. Most sidekicks will not have this problem unless you switch from a sidekick made by one person, to the same sidekick made by another person.
  • I assume you have current standard Firefox release, if not, get it. No betas please. I try to keep up with the most current standard release of FF as soon as it comes out.
  • Duplicate how I set mine up for best results by installing the GreaseMonkey nightly release at Arantius. Click the .xpi file to install it. You'll probably need to restart after that. (Warning: the 12/09 GM nightly release does not install scripts correctly. In addition, the 03/10 nightly release also does not install scripts properly and has an issue with JSON. Avoid those two versions.) Most versions of the standard release GM are just fine too.
  • Open up the wiki's Downloads page in another window so you can also keep reading these instructions. The downloads page will have the installs you need for the next two steps.
  • Install the FB Wall Manager script first. It is no longer important that it MUST be first, but I still suggest doing it first.
  • Install the sidekicks for any game you want to collect bonuses for.
  • Go to the new launch page located at http://www.facebook.com/pages/FB-Wall-Manager/199384176806715. This is a clean, quick-loading page where nobody can make their own posts. It keeps the load time for the script at a minimum while still loading all the needed facebook interface.
  • Boomark that page AND/OR click like to add it to your FB sidebar. (note: liking the page exposes you to people searching for you as a script user). Entering the page via a facebook link will not start the script unless you open the link in a new tab or window. Entering the page via a bookmark will start the script, BUT will not log you into facebook if you have been logged out. Please keep both of these things in mind.
  • Refresh your browser if the script is not yet running.
  • Enter the options menu and select what options you want for each game. The options menu is opened by clicking the WM Options button on the bottom left of the wall manager console.
  • Most options now update when you save them. There is no need to refresh the page UNLESS you want to reidentify posts or retry older posts already viewed by your current session. You can also use the re-identify button on the right toolbar to make all visible posts flag or unflag for collection based on your changed options.
  • There are additional setup instructions below.

Key Points

  • You should be using Firefox (most recent standard release please) or some other Mozilla browser. I don't currently support any other browsers than Firefox, but if you can get this script to work on your browser, thats fine, go ahead. I do warn you that it should not work with Google Chrome without a special kind of add-on. I won't go into detail because I don't support that browser. If you want to try it, get TamperMonkey. You may need other addons for your non-firefox browser to get the script to work properly.
  • You should have GreaseMonkey installed. I don't currently support any other script processors for Firefox. That being said, I hear good things about another add-on called Scriptish for Firefox, or TamperMonkey for Google Chrome.
  • Make sure you are not running facebook in HTTPS mode. You can read HTTPS for my take on HTTPS and a method to disable it near the bottom. Otherwise, go to the FB security tab and make sure "Secure Browsing" is disabled.
  • You MUST be logged into facebook to fetch posts with this script.
  • You cannot block popups from www.facebook.com. If you want to block popups, you need to make an exception for www.facebook.com. Enter the Firefox options menu: Tool > Options > Content Tab > Block Popup Windows Checkbox > Exceptions Button. Enter the exception "www.facebook.com".

Additional Setup Instructions

Ok, so you have the thing installed, but I bet it doesn't work nicely. There's more to the setup of this script than there is to other scripts such as FVWM. There are many reasons for that:

  • This script works with many games at once
  • This script requires special controls offered by Firefox to be set in certain ways.

So lets get started!

  1. Before you procede, make sure you have your chosen Sidekick scripts installed. It may also be required, if you just changed browser version, to re-enable the main and sidekick scripts. Firefox has a habit of disabling things or not carrying them over from version to version.
  2. To get the Sidekick scripts to communicate with the main script, and to stop lots of windows or tabs from forming you need to read and follow these Instructions. I do not know of similar methods for Chrome.
  3. To get the Sidekick scripts to stop stealing focus when they open the required Sidekick window, follow these Instructions. Again I do not know a similar method for Chrome.

If everything is working well at this point, there isn't much more to do. But check out this little list that might be helpful:

  1. Bookmark this wiki: I suggest clicking the Fbwm Wiki link on the top of any page to take you to the home page. Then tell your browser to bookmark that page. Its the best entry point and shows you the recent wiki changes on the right side. Most all the links you could possibly want about this wiki are listed there.
  2. Bookmark the launch page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/FB-Wall-Manager/199384176806715 OR click like to add it to your FB sidebar. You can then manage it with your other favorites using the normal FB tools.
  3. Read up on the Known Issues page. Get familiar with current issues and what you can do about them. The Known Issues page is already bookmarked in the WM Options Menu for your convenience, but feel free to bookmark it in your browser as well.
  4. Want some history, or want to know what just changed with WM? Check out the Revisions page. It contains information for the main WM script, its Sidekicks and also some information about other related scripts.
  5. Why not check out those Other Scripts? As a gamer myself, I write this stuff all for me. Then I share it. If you play the games I play, I bet you'd like my Other Scripts.
  6. Don't see a Sidekick for a game you play? Make one! Head on over to the Sidekick Dev Forum and chat with other potential Sidekick creators, or dive into the Sidekick Tutorial.
  7. Want to stay up to date on what's going on surrounding the WM script? Check out the community Blogs section.
  8. Need some in game advice for users, from users? Check out the Off-topic Category. Feel free to add your own game tips there.

  • The last 3 days I open up the wall manager fromt the FB page it takes a while to load anything and them it turns one yellow and opens a new tab and then just stops I hvae uninstalled and reinstalled played with the settings put the settings back to original and nothing - sometimes it just stays on the FB and does not even open I installed the update this morning has not helped at all?

    • Check the Known Issues page; that sounds like you have GM 0.9.19. There's a link there to the beta of GM 0.9.20, which works fine.

    • It was working great until the last update for fv. I am getting the same thing. Opens one and quits.

  • it get it to work, it opens the first 3 in seperate tabs then wont close them or grab anymore I am using the cafe world sidekick

  • I'm getting this error... cleaned cache in FF and re-booted, made sure I am only logged into one account... etc...

Graph.fetchUser: Error validating access token: This may be because the user logged out or may be due to a system error.

    • It is what it is, and the only thing I can say about it is to check to make sure you are logged in, and that you are actually logging out of one account before getting into another. You must also restart WM every time you changed users, you cannot just log out in one window and back in without closing WM. If you are using a multi-logger utility, be sure to check out its documentation. I don't support them.

  • Do you suppose to add something to the User Setting as this program still won't work, just can't figure it out...guess Windows 7 sucks the big one!!

    • Script is independent of operating system.

Just read through the Known Issues page and respond there as it suggests in its "Report a Bug" sectoin, or I cannot be of much help to you.

  • getting 502 Bad Gateway error when trying to download latest version

  • ok, i set it up, including disable secure browsing and messing with about config to get rid of bugs. it showed loads of posts for farmvilel and for mafia wars, when the only sidekick i have is farmville and i have not played mafia wars in months. i set all the options for fv, still loads of icons shown on the collect page. refreshed the page as it said because it wasnt actually collecting anything, i had a green and red 0 on thr fv icon at the top, then i saw that pop ips were being blocked so allowed them on facebook, and refreshed the page again and now i have not one single icon of an item to collect. still have the green and red 0 though and it still says fetching posts, it just is not moving on from fetching them. what am i missing?

    • The Known Issues page where you read the "Report a Bug" section and then get back with me. I'll then help you out more if I can.

    • yesterday a few computer restarts and page refreshes got it to kick in and run. back to blank white page again this morning, but i just updated firefox again and on reloading it is now collecting....i'm not going to touch it again today lol hopefully the issue was just that ff wasnt the newest (i generally rely on it updating everything automatically). just in case i will leave details though.

incidentally re the debug option, if i just tick use debug then click on the debug button if i have issues willthat give you anything you need from it? if it will then i can go and tick it, for now i left it out as i dont understand it (or some of the other options).

and thank you for pointing me to that section on the known issues page, somehow i had managed to completely not see it in my reading yesterday. firefox 11.0 greasemonkey 0.9.18 wm 2.1.8c farmville sidekick 0.0.96 this page http://www.facebook.com/pages/FB-Wall-Manager/199384176806715

    • The best data from the debug window doesnt come from using the default settings. Currently, the stuff I am looking for needs you to not only enable it but to also set its sensitivity to "function calls". Its got all the useful information I need after that.

  • How can I start auto-collecting or I have to do all manually? I see all post but what else pls?

    • enter the options menu and select what you want, use the images on Console and Options Menu if you are lost still. Once options are picked, either restart the WM or click the right sidebar button labeled re-id

  • Working for me. Windows 7 64bit, Firefox 11.0, WM 2.1.8c, Greasemonkey 0.9.18... Farmville sidekick 0.0.93... read the advice on how to post a problem

  • This is bullshit program still won't work for windows 7

    • You have an interesting way of expressing yourself or asking for assistance. I assure you it most certainly works on windows 7 since it is written on a windows 7 machine. Give a little care about something and maybe we can help you figure it out. Otherwise, piss off.

  • Wish it worked...

  • whoa whoa, can you guys move the posting to the known issues page so we can keep this in one spot so I dont have to wait for wikia's awful lag moving from page to page :) thanks

I have a request for some info on that page on the current long thread

  • Same for me too. Blank screen with Debug at bottom. Running Win 7 64 bit; GM nightly, FBWM 2.1.8, WM Sidekick (FV) 0.0.88. I uninstalled everything, restarted PC, deleted all cache, and then reinstalled everything as per instructions on wiki although updated to WM Sidekick (FV) 0.0.89. Same result - blank page with debug at bottom.

My wife has all the same setup on her computer and her wall manager is working perfectly at the moment???

  • Exactly the same error, will be mighty relieved when an emergency patch is available. Thanks for all the hard work you do, it is VERY much appreciated.

  • FBWM not working. Win7 64 bit. Java errors are: Error: uncaught exception: Error: Permission denied for <http://www.facebook.com> to get property Proxy.InstallTrigger

Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Node was not found" code: "8" nsresult: "0x80530008 (NS_ERROR_DOM_NOT_FOUND_ERR)" location: "resource://greasemonkey/runScript.js Line: 2325"]

    • Soon to have to make an emergency patch for you guys. This isnt global yet, but I think its a change in facebook layout.

  • Exact same for me. I have even tried rolling back to WM (FV) 0.0.88 since there were two updates but all I'm getting is a complete blank screen with the Debug button on bottom. "My fbwm stopped working today for no apparent reason. I am using FF 10.0.2 GM 0.9.18 sidekick WM (FV) 0.0.89 FBWM 2.1.8 page http://www.facebook.com/pages/FB-Wall-Manager/199384176806715 Secure browsing disabled. Not using new timeline. Worked this morning, stopped this afternoon. Only thing on page is FB user info at top and debug button at bottom of screen. "

  • Hi thanks so much for this program its really fantastic. Not sure if this is where i ask but just recently the wall manager started opening a ton of tabs instead of running on 2 tabs. It is doing this for all sidekicks I am not sure if I changed some setting accidentally please help.. thanks so much

  • I have the main app-plus sidekicks for Farmville/HC working on Chrome currently..the only downside is-it will open in another window-not another tab.. Please note you MUST allow pop-ups from Facebook.com apps.facebook.com farmville.com etc etc etc...and you can do this by going to the little wrench in the top right corner, clicking options, click "under the hood"-under privacy click "content settings" and then go down to pop-ups and it will allow you to add exceptions.

  • [FVWM] always says: 1 requests currently (0 done) 0 requests successful 0 requests failed it is not working....any solution

    • This is not the page for FVWM for farmville. This is the FB Wall Manager wiki site. Try userscripts.org for your FVWM needs, or switch to FBWM and get the FV sidekick by DDM on our Downloads page here on the wiki.

  • Got it! It's something in Adblock Plus. Now I just have to figure out what  :(

    Miaow

  • Disabled a few of my add-ons and it seems to be working! Just need to weed through them and see which one it was. I'm still going to clean up that folder you mentioned though and see how many gigs I can get back. I had done a cache clearing but sound like that's not enough. Thank you for your help!

    Miaow (same person as below)

  • Yup, that's me...same person as below.

Pop-ups aren't blocked but there MUST be a setting different between the two machines somewhere. I'll keep poking through and seeing what difference there are. It's not a known issue, it's something I've done since I set up both machines and all programs on them. Wonder what the heck I did???  :)

    • Edited: Somebody last night messaged me and said in their users/your id/appdata/local/TEMP folder, there was a list of data that numbered all the way to a high number and would not go any higher. When they deleted that crap they were able to use the script again. When I looked, I saw all kinds of cache stuff, but its stuff that should be cleared by cache cleaning anyway. Try cache cleaning and if that doesn't work, try cleaning some of that stuff from that folder and just see what happens. This person got 12 gigs of space back too.

I don't have a lot in there myself, but even with no caching in firefox, it still shows 1.6 gigs of crap, most of which is really really old.

    • Please do note that any of the gm_temp-## files are actually greasemonkey scripts that get downloaded when you install scripts with @require statements in their header. If you delete those, I do not know what will happen, other than the script will probably just download them again next time you run them.

  • Weird, DDM's update helped my Mom's Wall Manager to work but not mine (both computers in the same house). I've tried remove and re-install but no luck. Any other ideas? Thank you again!

    • If a script works on one machine and not the other, or one account on one machine and not another account on that same machine, its almost a guarantee the difference is on your computer and although I've gone through tons of possibilities here before, I just kinda gave up on all that. Unless somebody comes to your house to help you, the only things you can try are those already mentioned on pages such as Known Issues and any other random place anybody else decided to start a conversation on this wiki. Your best bet is to make absolutely sure both accounts or machines are set up the same. Go through everything from the way firefox is set up, greasemonkey and then check all the crap that facebook offers for options. The difference almost assuredly lies there.

If you are the same person who wrote the comments below, you might try simply checking that you did not block popups. If you did, you need to run through the part about allowing popups from www.facebook.com.

  • (having trouble responding to my thread below from yesterday about Wall Manager) - Thank you for letting me know about the changes in FV. I appreciate it and your program. I will wait patiently  :)

    • DDM made an update about 4 hours ago and it should take care of both today's problems and yesterday's problems. However, FV still has not fixed their send bushels page last I checked. We wont be able to fix the timeout on that page until they get their stuff together first.

  • Up until yesterday, FB Wall Manager worked great; then suddenly times out on everything! Has FB or Farmville made a change? I've tried re-installing but no luck. Any hints? Thank you for such a great program!

    • FV did make some changes. DDM and I are working on it right now. He will post an update soon.
